Be quiet + listen
The Exec Dir of Steptoe (a large law firm) hung up on me. We were both speaking at the same time and I was trying to tell him that I couldn’t give him any references for our product (due to our confidentiality policy) but I would try to give him a money back guarantee. He was trying to talk at the same time. Here is what his email response to my apology said: Mr. Ludman, you need to learn to take a breath and not interrupt clients and prospects when they are trying to talk. I no longer have interest in this matter. I don’t think I was super rude, but I did learn that it is definitely better just to shut up and listen to the customer and then say your piece when they have finished rather than trying to explain at the same time.
